Boikivshchyna in the Carpathians
Last week I took a day tour around the Carpathian mountains. It was my first time seeing its breathtaking views:

The territory is locally called Boikivshchyna, because of the name of the Ukrainian ethnographic group who lives here. The hallmarks of the area – previously wooded mountain slopes, now barren, with little villages, always by a river or stream. The hills are dotted by a particular-looking hay stacks. Locals mostly raise cattle and work in hospitality business. Tourists come here for fresh-water salmon fishing (Putyvlya river), skiing (Tysovets mountain), hiking (Shemborg castle), and mineral-water-drinking (Svaliava,Polyana and Truskavets). Here and there you can see the very-much-in-the-news gas pipe crawling towards West Europe. To see all this goodness, take the Europe-50 highway, cross Oryavsky, Puhomskyi and Veretskyi pereval towards Mukachevo.

I remember seeing the Carpati after being in the flatlands of Ukraine for months. Thought I’d been transported to Switzerland, the change was so dramatic. Lovely pictures. And thanks for the comment over on my blog — I’m writing an article, not intended for the blog, about how it’s increasingly difficult for US citizens to marry a non-US citizen. New regulations, fees, security demands, etcetera. Would welcome the chance to ask a question or two by email, in particular about whether or not the change in the Direct Consular Filing policy has brought about a change in your plans (to stay out of US long term, or just for the time being?). Anyways, best regards – Stephan

Hi, Stephan, yes, the Carpathians are very charming, athough I am ready any time to go to Switzerland now to make the comparison!
On the immigration: I would be glad to answer your questions, if only I had the expertize. Your article will be a very welcome read for us. I will keep my eyes on your site for when it comes out.
