Tavrian games (Tavriyski Igry)

An international music festival took place last weekend at Olimpiyski stadium in central Kyiv. It runs for two days and been around for like sixteen years. All the popstarts obliged, mostly Russian and Ukrainian (Romanian, even one French dude, I recon). Performers like Okean Elzy and Ruslana had other engagements I suppose, VV appeared at the end and Verka Serduchka almost closed the festival. The festival was tooted to be the biggest music event of the year. And it was celebrated accordingly. It was great to finally put the voices to faces, you know, that music that always glares in the taxis on radio Shanson. It really got the crowd going, dances, etc, impressive, considering the beer at the stalls run out at 7:30 pm and closing fireworks shoot up past 10 pm.

Yes, interestingly enough it was billed as being the biggest musical event of the year. Actually, Tavriski Ihry have gone down hill over the years.

Some comments that may shed some light on the status of this festival take a listen to a new program that will be coming out on Radio Continent 94.2 FM in Kyiv called Skhidna liha. The program will air at 17:15 on Fridays with a repeat on Saturday mornings at 11:15.

The program will feature an interview with Evhen Stupka the new Director of MTV Ukraine, which will finally be coming out in Ukraine. The interview gives some insight to the format that MTV Ukraine will be trying to create… Let’s just say those who listen will enjoy.

    Aha, good insight, Vasyl, thanks.
I wonder what you’d have to say about upcoming Krayina Mriy world music festival? This seems to be the season for them all, huh, there is also Taras Bulba, and some open air dj fest…
