Kiosks for bread, milk, fruit, etc.

15×15 cm, oil on board, 2008, private collection
… people line up at the street kiosks - an alternative of corner street shops that could not sustain in Kyiv with its recent hyper-development. The kiosks specialize really narrowly (since they are so small) - bread, milk, or fruits only - and they usually cluster together on busy residential corners in Kyiv. This one is the closest to me - on top of Vorovskogo st., nearby Lvivska square. The fruit seller stall I painted the other day is just across the street from here.
.
Aleksei told me today about an awesome Kyiv artist Maksim Mamsikow, who does similar small paintings of daily life and race cars. RA gallery has a few of his pieces for sale.

sure! We are even organizing an exhibit so that this artwork can go on sale there! Sarah is the master planner and Brook is in charge of catering for the event. I wish you could come (in March sometime). Meanwhile I am toying with an idea of setting up some kind of paypal or ebay thing here..
