uaz, soviet, car, jeep 15 x 15 cm, oil on board, 2008, private collection

Obvisouly I was into cars lately with my brand new shiny drivers license. This is the mother of all Soviet cars - Uaz.  Parents’ previous company car was just that, I don’t remember being at it’s wheel though, was too young, sigh.

Niva, car, soviet 15×15 cm, oil on board, 2008, private collection

I learned to drive on this car. Really, the reason I got inspired painting this because I got my drivers license just yesterday! Yippie! It’s a great feeling, a whole new plane to explore. I don’t understand how I got around without a car before. Anyway, so I am driving Niva now, khem, a bit newer model.

rodent, mouse, stuffed animal, painting, oil on board, daily painting 15×15 cm, oil on board, 2008, private collection

This critter made it into our collection after Roma got it from Brooke and Mark one day. She got it at her gym in Premier Palace as a New Year’s gift (it’s the year of the mouse according to Chinese calendar). Since then I found out that Brooke is going to have a little one at the end of this year. So she must have a mouse to keep a memory of this. Roma would not give back his favoarite toy, but portrait is ok he says.

15×15 cm, oil on board, 2008, private collection

Continuing here the theme of Ukrainian church domes. It’s a real pleasure to paint this beauty.

I caught a cold, as well as the baby, and a bit under the weather, not producing as much as I should a week before my first show.

Katherine I Hardy - a new artist who’s work I like. She illustrated the Great Gatsby and got her degree from RCA.

Little red train

train, soviet, red, green, winter 16×24 cm, oil on board, 2008

Roma is obsessed with trains. He actually did not mind me being focused on this one painting, considering it play time.  We’ve developed a theme here with this train and the Zaporozhets from two posts below.

When I was growing up, we used to live by the train tracks at one time. This little guys would run up and down and my brother would sit at the window, mesmerized by them. We called them tyani-tolkay (literally translated: pull-push).

Please send your bid by email if you want to purchase this painting.

Pomgranate

pomgranate, oil, painting, Ukraine, ukrainian, fruit 15×15 cm, oil on board, 200, private collection

Ever since I came back from my Georgia trip, I wanted to paint one. There I saw them growing on trees! More so, I learned they can explode from inside when get ripe! Again, I had to fight with the family for having these last bits to myself before it gets eaten. Sounds like we have too many people and too little food in the house, but the thing is: you just want to eat so much more something sitting prominently on a well-lit pedestal rather then in the kitchen fruit basket, especially if you are a baby.

Yan de Vliegher paints amazing museum interiors.

apelsyn, orange, painting, Ukraine, ukrainian

15×15 cm, oil on board, 2008, private collection

This is the season for oranges and this one traveled here with his own personal leaf on top!

These days in Lutsk by blog looks more like a daily painter’s blog. It’s a combination of circumstances: interesting subjects, more free time to paint as well as great moral support from my family. Here’s another small piece of fruit, as I started a larger landscape painting that took most of my energy away.

Just found a new fantastic illustrator I like:  Maria Kalman.
