Three on Dray Walk

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Another expressive little study on my favourite theme. I intentionally paint loose this week, exploring a bit different style. The subject of the Brick Lane set remains my favourite though…

Cafe Paddy Field on Dray Walk

During Sunday up market between Brick Lane and the Spitalfields this Japanese food stall is one of the best!  It provides fresh popular Japanese fast food that is less known but deliciously addictive. The croquettes and deep fried shrimp  is amazingly good! I tucked in a few this Sunday morning, and took a photo to make the mental note to come back :) .

Please email me your bid (starting at $75) if you’d like to own this piece.

This is a bit of a childish rendition of a great idea.  Love the trams – those super slow public transport thingies in Kyiv that crawl slow-slow along the old streets. Number 15 goes from Ploscha Peremogy to Podil.   With our fascination with trains, we had to take this one just for the kicks, although it takes twice less time to just walk to Podil from our old place.

Bee farm no. 5

Bee farm no. 42008, oil on gessoed board, 15×15 cm, commission

Another of the bee farm views from my trip.

Jetted through top galleries in Kyiv. Bit of a failure at start – Kollektsiya gallery sublet their space to some soap film crew. Next stop RA gallery featured some Latin American artists in main room as well as plethora of new art by established locals in the back (Kavsan’s pseudo Dutch still life). Their Thursday night opening features new photos by two Georgian photographers Irakli Dzneladze ans Amiko Kavtaradze. Since last visit, I learned that RA art and photo schools are growing up with even more classes and subjects to offer, feeding the need of their graduates for new and updated. In about a month a city wide Kievfotocom festival will bring tons of vry good international photography.

KyivFineArt propsed a semi realistic paintings of oil, sea, sand nudes by Elena and Tatyana Polyaschenko. The impression is – semi professional take on modern art.

Soviart and Karas galleries offered more impressive photo realism canvases and a special Soap project worth a look. Karas’ next big project China forever promises to be equally interesting.

Zeh initiated Samozahvat project, this time housed on a construction side on Borychiv tik 23a and presented an  array of Ukrainian modern greats. Except for Solomko’s light box, a nice installation sculpture and canvas by  Vasiliy Tsagolov.

And finally Gudimov’s Sumish installatin of antique decorative art and some modern art by Tistol, Vlada ralko and others creats a nice genretal impression.

Continuing here the theme of Ukrainian church domes. It’s a real pleasure to paint this beauty.

I caught a cold, as well as the baby, and a bit under the weather, not producing as much as I should a week before my first show.
