Two elks

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

A completed commission for a friend.  Growing up in West Ukrainian countryside and having a father- an avid hunter, helped imagine this scene.

The tallest burger

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

The other weekend went with friends to the local burger joint in Spitalfieds just to be served the tallest burger I’ve ever seen.  Captured them sizing it up to and the taking a pic of it with their iphones.

Rainy day

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

A new daily painting for today – and a break from working on the very large (2 x 2 m!) Brick Lane piece.  Everyone is pretty tired of bundling up before leaving for outside, and getting drenched in icy rain.  Let there be sunshine this coming weekend!

Roma at 3

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

I’ve realized I had this painting finished for some time now and have not gotten a chance to post it. It’s one of my biggish portraits, I am getting more  comfortable with this format. The little guy was very hard to settle down though. My tricks included cartoons on a laptop perched at the back of my easel and getting him to draw me in return.

Meanwhile I’ve been regularly posting one new watercolor a day on Etsy, see the thumbnails below.

Period interior in red

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

I can’t pinpoint what is that gives the scene most comfort: the red chair cushions, the wooden panelling or the marble mantelpiece, but I so imagine myself in that room right now sipping a cup of tea with something sweet to eat with it.

Another fantastic drawing room from the Geffrye museum installation. Moody blue colour scheme attracted me here. The information on the set states that the drawing room was mostly used for meeting guests, reading, playing music and making art – my kind of place in the house!

Even though I painted it, I have no idea what is that framed board on a pole standing behind the chair on the left. Any ideas from English historic interior connoisseurs?

At home at 1890

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Made a rewarding trip to the Geffrye museum this weekend. As a result – new observations of English period interior . I plan on about four more of similar paintings this week because the bad weather and a cold does not allow me to get outside.

Chiostro del Bramante II

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

This beautiful building houses a premier Roman art gallery Dart. This month it has on show the works of Boldini and his fellow Italians in Rome during the Impressionist period. I particularly loved his work because he was clearly very influenced by  John Singer Sargent and Ernest Messonier.
