Back from Rome

Monday, January 4th, 2010

I was very lucky to have spent the past two Christmases in Rome. Two weeks away seemed like eternity, even though it was spent amongst the most beautiful art and architecture.  I will be posting on here some of the sketches from around Rome, was trying out a bit different approach to line drawing – with a strong pencil instead of my usual ink pen lines.

Happy Holidays!

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Dear readers, thank you for visiting here, emailing and commenting on my daily musings in paint in this past year. 2009 was thrill and a great joy to share with you on here:  being interviewed for BBC on my Brick Lane paintings made me feel like an established Londoner after the move from Kyiv over a year ago. My artwork’s participation at the Royal Academy Salon , English Society of Women Artists made me a part of the London scene.

I can’t wait till  January to carry on with more daily paintings,  your commissions, as well as larger pieces for a solo show in 2010.

Flower stand at Liverpool street station

Moving inside with my painting as it snowed for the first time and wretchedly cold outside in London today. There is a lot of talk about the new energy saving lamps (introduced by the EU regulations) give cooler and less inviting light, an artist has a lot to worry about, particularly in London where there is hardly any natural light to paint to start with.

Winter on Columbia road

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Last weekend checked on the activity at Columbia road – in spite ofthe cold it’s buzzing as always – flowers, plus all kinds of Christmas trees and all the holiday decor.

Cutlery arrangement

Monday, December 14th, 2009

An arrangement of cutlery on my Aunt’s table… I seem to be into the flowery bits lately, not sure where this may take me, don’t have the steam to turn these into a series;  but this one-offs were fun to paint.

Little girl’s secreter

Friday, December 11th, 2009

I’ve revisited the color scheme I’ve loved so much in the Geffrye museum pieces (see thumbnails below). Orange and green give just the right amount of warmth so needed in dark winter months.

Left wing at the NGA

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Here is an impression of the NGA left wing hall leading to smaller thematic galleries – each hosting masterpiece after masterpiece of paintings.  Beautiful shades of the white captured my imagination.

Panettones are out

Monday, December 7th, 2009

A quick impression of the stack of fresh panettones at our loved local Italian deli – this is to mark the arrival of Christmas in our parts. Don’t think I ever painted roses before – a very cute arrangement dressing the deli tables ;  they (Franze and Evans owners)  have an eye for detail there for sure.

Main hall at the NGA, Washington DC

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Another impression of the things I love most in DC – the National Gallery of Art. Not even staring to talk about the artwork inside – the main hall is already worth your while. The flower arrangements by the fountain are stellar all year round.

N and 31st in Georgetown, DC

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

First painting from DC today;  the intersection is down the street from where I used to live and was on my daily walk to the office; not much changed in three years… more to come.
