Yesterday we went down to Windsor to see Queen’s weekend home. The local community there was running a pumpkin carving contest that we just had to participate in before we caught the train back to London. Here’s a jolly fellow that turned out as a result.

Continuing to feed our little fascination with owls. In particular - with Auntie Owl, who is very wise and reads us smart books.

Lion of Lviv

Bila_Kishka was nice enough to give us this tiny guy as a present from Lviv (he is larger then life in his portrait here). You can see how small he is comparing him to the type in the book that’s in the background. Again, the plushie is set against the Lisa and her Dreams book by Gapchinska. I can’t get over how cute and beautiful are her illustrations. This lion portait painting is part of my plush toy portrait series.

This little painting is part of my favorite plush toy portrait series. We were watching a children’s video Auntie Owl and the dog character there was named Bulya. For now every plush dog in the house is called Bulya. The book in the background here is Liza and Her Dreams by brilliant Ukrainian children’s book illustrator Gapchinska.

The number of plush owl portraits hit critical mass and I opened for them an Etsy shop.

Don’t remember mentioning it before here, but I have been a big fan of Amy Azelda Cooper’s ceramics for some time now.

I did not get a chance to go see the Central Saint Martin’s end of the year show, but found these product design photos. Love the Perfect Smile product.

The Auntie Owl

The Auntie Owl, 25,5x25,5 cm, oil on canvas, 2008 The Auntie Owl,  25,5×25,5 cm, oil on canvas, 2008

Another very loved stuffed owl in the house, a worthy contribution to the “Owls and other softies” collection.  Besides baby man’s obsession with the birds, amazing stuffed specimens of owls have been popping out from everywhere. People either point them out to us, or give as gifts. Next owl inspired painting will probably come from a visit to the Owl and The Pussycat pub, that we have been highly recommended to go to.

Another owl

Another owl, 06.08 oil on canvas, 8x8 inchesBoa the owl, oil on canvas, 8×8 inches, 2008.

Met up with my friend today for a chat and remembered about the delights of Anthropologie from the USA. Their (home) catalogs are such eye candy, I kept some since 2005.

Came across really fantastic ceramics via popputalk.

Little Hoot

DSC00613 Meet Little Hoot, oil on canvas, 12,5×18 cm, 2008

His name in Ukrainian is Brovko (Bushy - eybrow-ed). He is Roma’s new favorite, more of these to come I am sure, as our plush owl collection seems to multiply fast. The love for all things owl in our house spreads to books and LPs as well.

Check out the top new talent by illustration magazine 3×3: Steven Tabbutt, Justin Gabbard, Kumiko Sakaki, and Melissa Verde no owls, but very stylish.
