The Apothecary cafe

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Another cosy place in Rye, the Apothecary cafe; had a delicious coffee cake, alas with the proper English Breakfast tea.

A Mermaid bust

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Another addition to my imaginary library would be a beautiful bust of some composer, probably – Chaikovsky. They had one, fittingly, of a beautiful girl, at the Mermaid Inn.

Mermaid Inn

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Happy to get back to painting oils after a week of basking in the sun. Did some nice watercolors while on vacation as well actually. About this painting: absolutely loved the plush old school leather chairs and ancient wooden beams at this inn in Rye. As soon as I sat down there, immediately started fantasising about having a beautiful library of my own, full of dusty books, dotted with green lamps and old leather chairs.

Victoria Gardens on Embankment II

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

Here is another take on the Vitoria Gardens. Speaking of which, forgot to mention the great experience I had there while on the shoot: that day I took my bike to get to several locations marked in my brief in one go,  so I only realized I was missing my wallet when I stopped for a Sturbucks at the end of the trip. (I am not a Sturbucks kind of person, but it was just in front of me).  I must have looked like one disappointed customer – the barrista asked what was the problem and immediately offered me a free marcchiato (expresso kind, my favoarite, mm) – this totally made my day. I took it to the park across to busk in the sun and  ponder on the amazing effect of simple goodness  in life.

Hyde Park on a sunny day

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Loved painting  this sun based family walking out of the Hyde Park. Did not sun catching today in the Embankment area. It weather changed five times (inducing rain) during the half hour I spent there.

Paddington station

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

It was great to meet and talk with the artists whom I shared the wall space at the Real show by Go Figurative last week. Today is the new beginning – I am painting a series of commissioned 6×6 scenes of London. The exercise went on to a good start when I got a large email brief on the commission. It included the list of favourite places in London from nearly all of the company’s employees where my paintings will be hung – a pretty personal experience for me to put in paint their most fondest places. Here is the first one: a  glimpse at Paddington station, particularly it’s magnificent roof designed by Brunel.

Flower sellers at Embankment

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Last weekend I was invited to a friend’s birthday party. I took the narrow pedestrian street with antique second floor walkways between the buildings towards Embankment to find on the bottom the stall of these friendly ladies trading with the fresh tulips of any color imaginable. Mini picked out the pink ones, and the bouquet was ours; with  nice stylish touch added to it – presented with a tissue paper wrapping instead of the usual plastic ones.
