In the past three days pianist James Rhodes has performed on this exquisite Steinway piano at the Riflemaker gallery. The instrument literally took up half of the space of the gallery’s ground floor. The rest was left to the revelers of the beautiful music. The lovely gallery director Tot Taylor also granted us a preview of the gallery’s offerings for the upcoming Frieze Art fair.

Dennis Severs’ House, Lady’s vanity

This well-lit corner always drew me in in the house. It’s telling me about it’s owner’s love for beauty, and suggests the daily morning routine of the lady of the House in those days.

Still life 3rd reincarnation

At the Dennis Severs’ House, David, the art curator, recreates physical still life around the house, drawing inspiration from the old masters. I have painted this one from his set-up in the dining hall. It drew me in with it’s quintessential English fare and the fact that it was the only properly lit object in the House when I came to paint there the other day.

Leeds castle, the living room

With the BP portrait award and the RA summer show excitement settling down, I am back to my brushes with another Leeds castle image. My favorite mars orange oil paint, that helps me add that warm color I love so much, is nearly finished. Anxiously awaiting for that package in the mail my mom had to post urgently from Ukraine. Do tell me if you see any Saint Petersburg Neva oil paints for sale in London.

BP portrait award 2011 at the National Portrait Gallery

Starting with today’s painting, yet another view of the Leeds castle library. Whatever she is reading, obviously she is too engrossed in the book to be annoyed with the cell phone chatter going on in the foreground.

Now about the BP portrait award show opening. In much exitement I’ve rushed straight through to marvel at all the pictures on display till I’ve realized the drinks are served outside. Funny enough one can swing their glass around smack next to David Hockney, but not allowed into the room with this year’s BP exhibition. All the pictures are just that – splendid and very personal.

I’ve learned that the portraitists are the nicest kind of artist, friendly and sharing. Really enjoyed meting fellow exhibitors at the show, Thea Penna, Joe Simpson, Leigh Glover, Layla Lyons, Noel Bensted, Tony Noble, Matthew Schofield, Elie Shamir, and Chris Holt. And if that’s not enough, wearing a smart little orange button saying ‘Artist’ on it was the incing on the cake for me.

Leeds castle continued

I still can’t leave the spectacular castle library (see three previous posts on its interior). I’ve decided, that cushion in front if the fireplace is all mine. I would spend hours there, reading, and drinking tea.

Tomorrow I will list a couple of 2010 smaller paintings in my Etsy shop that came back to me from var. shows. Stay tuned.
