Tugboats on the Thames Embankment

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Here is another take on the view from the Waterloo bridge over London’s Embankment. I took about 1 10 minute detour on my bus ride because of St. Patrick’s festivities going on at Trafalgar square, but it was not a drag at all. On the opposite, the detour proved quite rewarding. I hear many complaints about London’s public transport network, but thinking of how complex and expansive it is, I think it gets me around town quite well as it is.

View of Embankment over Thames

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Yesterday I took a long bus ride from East End over to Chelsea to drop off my paintings for the upcoming show Real at Heatherly’s School of Art next week. When crossing the Waterloo bridge, I could not take my eyes off this sight, will paint more on the subject tomorrow.

Dance in the park, finished

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Finished up a largest piece of work ever, measuring 165 cm wide, too late and dark at the moment to get a proper picture up, here’s just a shot of my paint box in relation to the painting to get the idea of its size.

I am leaving for a few weeks  to Belgium and then Ukraine and do not promise I will post regularly, be back in touch in November!

St. John Smithfield for lunch

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Sam used to meet up for memorable lunches with her friend here at the St. John Smithfield restaurant, when she lived in London. Now that she has moved away, she commissioned from me this painting to give it as a gift to the friend to remind both of the good times.

Side street off Columbia road

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Loved the play of colour of girl’s hair and the blue jumpsuit. This Sunday market was particularly busy today, in spite of the intermittent rain.

Rough Trade, completed

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Of one of my favourite streets in East London, a little alley really, called the Dray Walk, that turns into a street party every night on weekends. The record shop is amazing, in addition the little cafe in it has the best coffee on this side of Brick Lane. Not to mention the amazing boutiques and sumptuous pizza at Story Deli.

Meanwhile I continue posting my tea and coffee cup watercolours on Etsy. I know its totally different from what I paint in oil, but I just can’t get it out of my system yet (saying this while sipping a cup of Napuk brew from Mariage Freres, yum!).

Rough Trade East – work in progress

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

A work in progress today – of the pedestrian street by the Rough Trade East record shop. It’s a four times larger then my usual 6×6 painting, so it will take a few days to make. I will be posting more work in progress pics here as I get used to the larger format. My previous attempt to do 30×30 was the picture of the Michelangelo Slaves last week.

Columbia road flower market II

Monday, July 13th, 2009

I am very lucky to live in the neighbourhood of the Columbia road flower market in London. Last week painted another view of it, thinking of putting these vignettes together a larger panoramic painting of the street…
