Skies over Broadway market

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

My brother said the other day: ” I never thought I am a foodie until I moved to London.” That’s all thanks to the abundant markets around town and all the wonderful food there is on offer there. This is a picture of my neighborhood one – the Broadway market. A side street off of it on the market day, when the coffee man brings his pop up coffee shop to the intersection of Broadway and Dericote St. on Saturdays.

Shades on

Not complaining about the lack of sun any more. It’s here and others noticed it too.  Today’s picture is of stylish market goers, flaunting their summer garb.

New Covent Garden market

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

The other night I have came along with Leila on a market run to the New Covent Garden market. The Gentle Author is going on one such trip this week. I cant wait to read the Spitalfields Life’s impressions about it. Must confess mine are pretty bleary-eyed, I believe I am still recovering from the lack of sleep. The market is so visually astonishing though I am thinking of painting more of it in the future.

If you’d like, sign up to get my painting updates in your mailbox (I try to complete one each working day). No posts for a while though as I am off to Ukraine for a couple of weeks.

Broadway market, Sunday

Caught these girls chatting on the corner. The big letter D on the shop shutters behind the group is most likely done by the graffiti artist Ben Eine, see a Guardian feature about him here.

Broadway market organic food

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

A cute small place of organic food on Broadway market. The hangings above the produce looked of super bright color today in the full-on sunshine.

Broadway market, Saturday

My tribute to the beginning of spring, here in London. I caught this scene from the Broadway market down the street on a very warm sunny day.

Leila’s, quinces

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Popped in to get our favorite dried mango to find out that the magnificent quince fruit is now in season and offered at Leila’s.  And it was just yesterday that I went specifically to get those at the Borough market. Will be happy to come back here and restock on those next week. My grandma used to make amazing jam with those, she had a quince tree producing smallish covered with fuzz quince fruit, but the jam from it turned out royally good.

Entering the Borough Market

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Last night had a great opening at  Real  Hampstead. St. Stephen’s – the venue – is truly amazing. It runs until Tuesday if you’d like to stop by (St. Stephen’s, Rosslyn Hill, NW3 2PP) . The nice gentleman, who interviewed us artists at the show, confessed he was a foodie, so this helped me focus back on the Borough market today.  This is a small tunnel entry  into the market from Borough High st. on a wet and cold day. It ‘s packed with people with cups of coffee in hand, shrugging off the morning chill.

Borough market, under the bridge

Another look at the market – through the rail bridge archway.

6×6 in, oil on panel, 2010, sold

This is an oil on board painting, approximately 6×6 in (15×15 cm) large, shipped without a frame in a foam lined manilla envelope. Remember that colours may look slightly different in person, but usually for the better! Please add a week of drying time from the day of this post – the paint is still fresh!
