Another lovely corner of local streets, buzzing with action any time of the day.

Today’s picture is of a lovely occasion – the Arnold Day at the Arnold Circus in East London: brass band, tea and cake, colorful balloons and balmy weather.
Our survival is no longer dependent on the agricultural cycles and good crops as a result of good weather,? and yet British seem to be so obsessed with the weather and talk about it constantly. Yes, the weather is so rarely pleasant in these parts, that when the sun does come out, Brits seem to know best how to take the best advantage of it.? As a result, people learned here to get the most pleasure out of the rate good days.
Here the yellows, the blues and the greens tumble down the open sky. The last rays of afternoon sun hit the top branches. Until another good sunny day, hopefully not too long away from now.

Since I am seeing the theme forming in my work, ill be marking post headers with something like “Vitamin D” every time I paint sunshine from now on. This painting is one such case – love the direct sunshine onto the stalls of the Leila’s shop in Shoreditch. Unlike the ugly Hackney road though, this is one place that does not need sunshine to appear pretty and attractive.
Also, all the displayed veggies and fruit bring home the point that our life would be pretty miserable without sunshine (although not totally impossible; see David Attenborough’s First Life on first signs of life appearing on this planet deep in the seas near volcanic vents).

Finally we saw some snow, just before it touched the ground and melted into slush. So I am looking only on the pretty fluffy treetops and the distant building in the haze here.
My pic with the Dennis Severs House paintings at the Lynn Painter Stainers show from last week are on Makingamark blog again.
Ive just realized I am into orange blue color combination this week. The (rarely) blue tall London skies and the red brick of Arnold Circus buildings, a ray of sun on the Shoreditch church (the one from the nursery rhyme so masterfully illustrated by Paul Bonner).
A beautiful oasis of green, just next to Leila’s shop and cafe, Arnold Circus bandstand has been recently renovated with the hard work by the trustees of the Friends of Arnold Circus. It is surrounded by one of the oldest council estates in the country – the Boundary estate. When I go up the stairs to visit some friends who live in one of those houses, I sense the smell or curry and hear stories of the craftsman storing unheard of treasures of his work on the floor below. On the outside, I am attracted to the red layered brick stripes and the lightness of the buildings’ lines.
We are expecting snow in London today. This is a painting of the day before: morning fog over empty Columbia road, with Broadgate tower less then a mile away almost invisible.
Mind the images of the larger paintings on canvas made earlier in the year, they are now available on Etsy.
