The morning was dampened by the grim look of the commuters on the way to Old Street and then Kings Cross, push bike stuck in the tube door and coffee nearly spilled into a very nice purse of a bystander; but soon after arriving home I opened my inbox to find several awesome emails from people who read the Gentle Author’s post about my work in Spitalfields Life. I can not say enough how much I am proud to be on this blog, all the work that is done on it is definitely history in the making.
So thank you all so much for your messages, it really made my day. I very much appreciate your ideas of places and art to see that might inform my own painting in some ways, so please keep them coming. Sorry for dearth of work in my Etsy shop at the moment, please add me on Facebook, Twitter or RSS feed to get regular post updates or sign up for the newsletter (via the filed on the right) to get occasional email.

Finished the last painting of Leila’s grocery, for now. Will rephotograph and post here better images as soon as the paint dries a bit.
Meanwhile, have been into sketching from life around town, check the thumbnails below for larger images.

Carrying on with exploring what’s in stock at Leila’s. The bright round of cheese was impossible to pass by. Love the glow of orange on the pumpkin wedges.
Went to a lovely opening of the
Discerning Eye last night, my two paintings are on show there this week. Met there with my new best friend and inspiration –
David Gould. He won the first DE prize the other year, and his
Vestiges relief, on show there right now, just baffles me with intricate detail and intelligence of color.

Popped in to get our favorite dried mango to find out that the magnificent quince fruit is now in season and offered at Leila’s. And it was just yesterday that I went specifically to get those at the Borough market. Will be happy to come back here and restock on those next week. My grandma used to make amazing jam with those, she had a quince tree producing smallish covered with fuzz quince fruit, but the jam from it turned out royally good.

This is one of the series of the Shoreditch night scenes. The life and movement of people about is fascinating. The two mannequins in the window here looked particularly real in the light.

There is always a lot of action on Dray walk thanks to several cafes, boutiques, galleries and the superb Rough Trade record shop. To top it all, the sun lit it all so well, I could not pass it by today.
