Bakery and wine St. John Smithfield

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

My good friend Zach lives in San Francisco. When we met in Washington DC when he was working on the Hill and  me- as a financial statistician at the World Bank. He looked me up online recently,  found my Etsy shop and got several paintings off there. It felt terribly awkward getting back in touch with an old friend this way, particularly the one, who’s birthday I missed more then once, so I made a painting for him today. I know he’d prefer something sunny, but he can get plenty of that in SF , so here’s an image of St. Johns in Smithfield, with a few guys (chefs or patrons?) hanging out in anticipation of a good dinner.

St. John Smithfield for lunch

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Sam used to meet up for memorable lunches with her friend here at the St. John Smithfield restaurant, when she lived in London. Now that she has moved away, she commissioned from me this painting to give it as a gift to the friend to remind both of the good times.

Friday night at Smithfield

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

While on the way to the St. John Smithfield restaurant, passed by this colorful group: the green of the door and the purple of the shirt really captivated me…

Have been thinking more about why I chose internet to share my art and what I plan to do with it in the future (thank you, Walter, for asking these questions first). Really, I do  feel as if carried by a new and exiting movement in art – where artist talks directly to the collector, and this dialog creates a fresh and much more accessible experience for  both. I am very happy to be part of this movement and look forward to experimenting more with it and see what it brings…

St. John in Smithfield

Minimal decor, old style furniture and young knowledgeable  spunky stuff – this is why the place was rated in the top 50 best restaurants in the world… in spite of serving traditional British cuisine.
